Meet Chef Dumebi
Founder. Hospitality Entrepreneur. Chef. Educator. Storyteller.

I've Always Believed Food Is About More Than What's On the Plate
Growing up, food was how people welcomed one another, celebrated milestones, offered comfort and passed knowledge from one generation to another. Those early experiences shaped not only the way I cook, but the way I understand hospitality.
Over the years, that understanding has grown into a career that allows me to explore food from several directions: as a chef, restaurant founder, educator, consultant, entrepreneur, presenter and writer.
I have created restaurant and delivery concepts, taught students and home cooks, advised hospitality businesses, hosted food television and continued documenting the memories and flavour systems that make African food what it is.
Recipes can be taught. Technique can be practised. But hospitality is ultimately measured by what people feel.

Today, my work reaches beyond individual restaurants or recipes
It is an ongoing exploration of the role food plays in identity, memory, business and human connection.
Whether I am creating a dining concept, teaching future culinary professionals, advising a restaurant or writing about food and culture, every project is guided by the same principle:
Food is the invitation.
Hospitality is the language.
Connection is the outcome.
Hospitality is not about achieving visual perfection. It is about making people feel welcomed, considered and cared for.
That principle shapes every concept, collaboration, class and conversation I have the privilege to create.
What I Do
My work spans several areas, each connected by a shared commitment to meaningful hospitality.
Culinary Experiences
Chef’s tables, cooking classes, seasonal events and gatherings that bring food, culture and conversation together.
Hospitality Consultancy
Concept development, operational strategy, menu work and training for restaurants, founders and hospitality businesses.
Storytelling & Media
Writing, presenting and speaking about food, culture, travel, business and African culinary knowledge.

Building a Legacy Around the Table
While much of my work begins in the kitchen, the vision extends far beyond the plate.
Through The First Table, I am documenting recipes, memories, ingredients, journeys and the people who shape our relationship with food.
Alongside that work, I have developed a growing portfolio of culinary brands, each created for a different audience while sharing a common commitment to flavour, generosity and cultural confidence.
Together, these projects form one body of work: restaurants, education, media, experiences, consultancy and storytelling designed to preserve what matters while creating room for what comes next.
